TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Stormont Vail Health has seen a jump in COVID-19 hospitalizations and the percent positive rate within the past few days.

Stormont Vail Health says it has witnessed a large increase in the number of patients with COVID-19 that require hospitalization. It said this shows the virus is once again spreading through the community.

According to Stormont Vail, within several hours on Tuesday afternoon, the hospital jumped from 22 inpatients with the virus to 30. It said on Wednesday morning, it had 28 COVID-19 positive patients.

Largest hospital association urges workers to receive COVID vaccine

The nation’s largest hospital association called Wednesday for all healthcare workers to get vaccinated as cases rise around the country.

“To protect all patients, communities and personnel from the known and substantial risks of COVID-19, the American Hospital Association strongly urges the vaccination of all health care personnel,” the organization said in a policy statement. “The AHA also supports hospitals and health systems that adopt mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policies for health care personnel, with local factors and circumstances shaping whether and how these policies are implemented.”

Mayor, health care leaders to encourage vaccinations as COVID-19 cases surge

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Mayor Lenny Curry and local health care leaders will address the recent increase in COVID-19 cases and the local vaccination rate during a news conference at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday.

This comes as local hospitals take steps to deal with the surge, including changes to visitation policies and elective procedures.

In Duval County, the Department of Health reports 403,552 people vaccinated or about 50% of the eligible population compared to 58% of people vaccinated across the state. Data show there are 109,603 known cases of the virus in Duval and 2,406,809 known cases in Florida.

Staff at one Florida hospital figured they had seen the worst of Covid-19. They may be proven wrong

“It’s sad and frustrating because we thought that we were toward the end of it,” nurse Lauren Schiller told CNN. “And within not even two days, we’re back to being just like it was in December, January, which is crazy.”
